Plant Sculptures on show at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Some of my flower sculptures will be sowing themselves at London’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show 20th – 24th May. I make a pilgrimage to Chelsea most years to immerse myself in all the beauty, knowledge and creativity to be found there, so I was very happy indeed to be asked to make a couple of pieces for The Map House to include in their exhibition there of rare and antique botanical prints and maps.

Wild flowers are of particular interest for me, these tough, sometimes overlooked everyday little gifts of nature that mark the passing seasons and days.  The daisy derives it’s name from  Anglo Saxon “daeges- eage’, the eye of the day.  A white flower unfolds it’s petals with each new day to reveal a yellow centre that represents the sun, which then close themselves back up again at dusk. For all the flowers in the world I tend to agree with  English Medieval poet Geoffrey Chaucer that the daisy ranks “… the Emperice and flour of flours alle”
