In August last year I was delighted to be invited out to be artist in residence at The Hamilton Princess, Bermuda aka The Pink Palace. The hotel is home to an incredible collection of modern and contemporary art, from Picasso and Matisse to Warhol and Banksy, Jeff Koons to Yayoi Kusama all on dynamic ever changing public display. Following my residency a new large floral sculpture “Specimen Florae Bermudiana” made following my visit will soon be joining the collection along with several other example of my work that are already there.

I spent two weeks immersed in the space and travelling the length and breadth of the island, exploring its unique habitats by land and sea, and generally seeking out its incredible natural beauty in my hunt for inspiration! Having thought about using a more naturalistic bank note colour eventually I decided to go all out pink. With bit of local help, I obtained a bundle of pink Bermuda Five Dollar notes and over a period of months “Specimen Florae Bermudiana” slowly came together as tribute the natural wonders of the island, including examples of some of the glorious plants such as Ferns, Hibiscus and Oleander flowers that thrive there. See more of my flower and plant sculptures in the Nature section.
